After a thrilling series debut at Circuito Internacional de Montalegre last month, RallyX returns to action this Saturday and Sunday in the Netherlands with a visit to Eurocircuit in Valkenswaard. As was the case in Portugal, the world’s top rallycross teams—including America’s own BAK40 Motorsports and multiple other teams with stateside ties—will go to battle on back-to-back days this weekend in hopes of taking home trophies.
Montalegre proved to be a thrilling showcase for the First Corner FC2 car, which joins traditional rallycross Supercars in RallyX’s Open 4WD class. In the opener, the FC2 didn’t just make up most of the grids in the Open 4WD Pro finals, it also thrilled in its own unique pair of feature races. But the car didn’t just stand out in terms of speed; it also showcased its durability when, after a major incident in Sunday’s Open 4WD Pro semifinal, the Team Faren crew quickly repaired Patrick O’Donovan’s car in time for him to make the FC2 main event.
The Olsbergs MSE duo of Oliver Eriksson and Casper Jansson had the most overall success in Portugal, as they were the only two drivers to make all four finals. Eriksson, the 2015 GRC Lites champion and a frequent winner in Nitrocross, was consistent with a pair of second place finishes in the FC2 finals and a third place in Open 4WD Pro on Saturday. Jansson, a multi-time Nitrocross NEXT champion, won Saturday’s FC2 final.
Both will be back at Valkenswaard to look for additional trophies, but they’re far from the only drivers looking to replicate their successes from last month. Fellow Nitrocross standout Fraser McConnell will aim to better his runner-up spot from the first Open 4WD Pro final in Portugal, while Tommi Hallman will aim to return to his dominant ways from Nitrocross NEXT EVO after winning the second FC2 final. BAK40 Motorsports will look to build on its first European event with a three-car lineup of Lane Vacala, Simon Olofsson, and newcomer Viktor Kristensson, while Viktor Vranckx will make his return after focusing on Nitrocross with his own VMV Racing last year.
While the Open 4WD ranks boast some of the biggest names in rallycross, nearly 80 entries across five classes will compete on the 0.64-mile Eurocircuit this weekend. The Open 2WD division boasts a deep field of 30 entries, while CrossCar and CrossCar Junior will combine for nearly 30 racers across two divisions as well. Rounding out the roster is the venerable SuperCar Lites class, which made its debut in America in 2013 and continues to persist as one of the sport’s most proven development grounds.
American fans looking to watch RallyX action from Valkenswaard can stream live and free coverage all race weekend long at youtube.com/@RallyXTV. Streams will kick off on Saturday and Sunday mornings ET.
