PMR Motorsports and Chevrolet Performance are ready for the long-awaited public debut of the Chevrolet Sonic LT1 rally car this weekend at Michigan’s Lake Superior Performance Rally. Pat Moro and Ole Holter will compete in the Open 4WD class with the new build, which takes Moro’s tried-and-true V8-powered Sonic concept to the next level with Chevrolet Performance’s modern crate motor.
“I’m really excited to finally show off the Sonic LT1 at LSPR this weekend,” said Moro. “Having the LT1 engine is definitely a step forward for our team. This weekend will be the car’s first time on gravel, and we’re looking forward to seeing how it shakes out after everything we learned while running the LS3. This was a huge task, but everyone involved has done a fabulous job. Thank you to Chevrolet Performance and all of our partners for their support!”
After years of running the fan-favorite Chevrolet Sonic LS3 in American Rally Association events, the PMR team has been hard at work in the shop on an all-new build to showcase the LT1. Key new components and design elements have been based on years of experience running the LS3 motor, and the PMR team has documented the process in a multi-part video series.

The launch of the Sonic LT1 also gives the opportunity for PMR to run multiple cars at LSPR this weekend. 2023 NA4WD Cup champions Arek Bialobrzeski and Aris Mantopoulos will serve as teammates to Moro and Holter this weekend in the Sonic LS3, giving the team a second opportunity to contend for the podium, and fans twice as many chances to hear Chevrolet power on the stages.
Lake Superior Performance Rally will feature 15 special stages totaling 135 racing miles, with competition beginning at 11AM Friday and 10AM Saturday. While most stages will see two passes on the weekend, the opening and closing stages of the event are among those run only once: Al’s Playground will open the festivities on Friday morning with the first 7.75 miles of the event, while the fan-favorite Mt. Marquette super special stage will bring racers through downtown Marquette before winners are crowned.
