Robin Larsson and Mitchell deJong earned not only the victories in their respective class semifinals, but also the inside line for the A finals, as RallyX Americas Round 1 semifinals finally kicked off from Crandon International Raceway on Sunday morning. With rain delaying yesterday’s planned action, semifinals and finals for both Rounds 1 and 2 were moved to Sunday, with the former in the morning and the latter in the afternoon.

The Supercar semifinals started with Banks Hovey living up to the “tactical” part of his Real Street Tactical car. Running second to Lukas Andersson for most of the race, he Jokered early and took advantage of a last-lap Joker from Andersson to pull into the lead and secure the front row starting spot for the final. Tyler Leach would earn the last transfer spot into the A final over Patrick Gruszka, while Romet Tsirna would pull off early with issues.

The second Supercar semifinal saw deJong hold the point all race long, as Gray Leadbetter, Simon Olofsson, and Johnny Holtger had a dramatic fight for the final two A final spots. Leadbetter would pass Olofsson on the first lap, but Holtger would shuffle into second as both drivers Jokered. When he finally took the longer lap, he’d briefly slot into third, but a spin in Gravel Pit would end his transfer hopes. Olofsson would make contact with Holtger, but he drove away to claim third place.

When Hypercars took the green flag, top Friday qualifier Jimmy Henderson reasserted himself as one of the drivers to beat, taking a strong early lead and hanging on to beat Kevin Eriksson for the front row spot. After battery issues hindered his Friday heats, Timmy Hansen would recover to secure the final transfer spot over Oliver Eriksson and Tommi Hallman.

Larsson would cap off the semifinals with a win from the first starting spot. His JC Raceteknik teammate Mikaela Ahlin-Kottulinsky had a strong start to briefly grab second, but deJong and Lia Block would find their way back past her as Ahlin-Kottulinsky made contact with the outside wall in Ponsse Turn Two. Block would pressure deJong for second all race long, Jokering earlier to try and make up time on a clean track, but with both drivers secure in transfer spots to the A final, their running order wouldn’t change.

deJong and Hovey will start from the front row in the Round 1 Supercar A final later this morning, while Larsson and Henderson will be up front for the Hypercar A final. The drivers who did not transfer in each class will compete in B finals that run before each of the A finals, while the winners of each A final will earn the Dennis Reinbold 1 of 1 Award for winning in their first RallyX Americas start. Live streaming coverage will be available on the RallyX YouTube channel.
