• Tomy Drissi enters this weekend’s Trans Am doubleheader at Watkins Glen International third in the TA championship
  • He comes off his second runner-up finish in the past three races at Road America last month
  • Drissi took a popular victory at Watkins Glen in 2018 by driving from sixth to first

2009 Trans Am champion Tomy Drissi and Drissi Motorsports are set to wrap up the busiest stretch of the 2026 Trans Am campaign this weekend at Watkins Glen International with the second and final doubleheader of the championship on Saturday and Sunday. Currently sitting third in the TA championship with four podiums, Drissi and the #8 Trench Shoring Company/Motul/Petersen Automotive Museum Chevrolet Camaro will wrap up a stretch of four races in a month at one of his best tracks on the schedule.

Drissi’s first visit to Watkins Glen as a Trans Am driver saw him clinch his 2009 series championship with a second-place finish. His second visit, in 2018, saw him charge from sixth to first to take an impressive victory, holding off hard-charging teammate Lawrence Loshak in the closing laps of the race to finish the job. All told, Drissi has five Trans Am podiums at the iconic New York circuit, plus experience in both stock cars (starts in both the NASCAR Cup and O’Reilly Auto Parts Series) and prototypes (in IMSA).

That makes a doubleheader event this weekend a welcome opportunity for Drissi to capitalize on recent momentum. He has runner-up finishes in two of the past three races and a 21-point advantage over David Pintaric for third in the championship, and he’ll be looking to extend that gap on back-to-back days. Having scored a third place finish in the first leg of this year’s other doubleheader at Sonoma Raceway, Drissi Motorsports has already proven its ability to come out of the gate strong in such a busy weekend.

“When the schedule came out for this season and I saw that Watkins Glen was one of the two doubleheaders, I was really excited,” said Drissi. “Any driver would love to have two shots at a track where they’ve won before! We’ve also had some really great results over the past few races, and the Drissi Motorsports team has been working hard to overcome every challenge and keep getting the car faster. I’m really excited for what we can do this weekend!”

The action for Tomy Drissi and Drissi Motorsports kicks off on Thursday with optional test sessions at 10:40AM and 2:45PM, while Friday will see practice at 9:45AM and qualifying at 2:20PM. Each race of the doubleheader will last for either 30 laps or 75 minutes, and green flags will fly on Saturday at 10:30AM and Sunday at 2:05PM. Tickets remain available, while Racing America will once again carry free live streaming coverage of both races, as well as Friday’s practice and qualifying sessions.
