VORTEX Rule Changes for 2024 Season

The following rule changes will be made for the 2024 season of Virtual Off-Road Team Endurocross (VORTEX):

Vehicles and Classes

The Pro 2 Lite (Limited Truck) will be replaced with the full-power Pro 2. The Pro 4 and Pro 2 classes will officially be known as Unlimited Truck-4 and Unlimited Truck-2.

Vehicle Numbers

All numbers will be free for all classes to select on a first-come, first-serve basis. However, the traditional number format will still be encouraged:

  • Unlimited Truck-4 (Pro 4): 00-09, 1-99
  • Unlimited Car (Subaru WRX STI): 100-199
  • Unlimited Truck-2 (Pro 2): 200-299
  • Limited Car (Volkswagen Beetle Lite): 500-599

Point System

The final “0” will be removed from all points totals moving forward. Last place class points will go from 500 to 50. Gaps between positions will go from 100 to 10.

VORTEX Classic Trophy

A new championship, the VORTEX Classic Trophy, will be awarded alongside the five existing VORTEX championships (Overall and the four classes) for 2024. To be eligible for the VORTEX Classic Trophy, racers must meet the following criteria:

  • Compete in all three events for the 2024 season.
  • Compete in the same class in each event.
  • Compete in an entry that uses the traditional number format.

As long as all of this criteria is met, it doesn’t matter if the driver switches teams or teammates during the season. For example: an Unlimited Car racer that runs for a team with #124 in the Great Lakes 100 and Sierra Nevada 100, but runs for a new team with the #186 in the Group Therapy 100, is still eligible for the VORTEX Classic Trophy.

Solo Race Penalties

VORTEX, in its name and by its nature, is a team championship. While drivers who show up and race solo will not be barred from competing, the following penalties will be applied to drivers who complete a race without sharing their vehicle:

  • Loss of one completed lap on their final score, to compensate for the time saved without undergoing a driver change;
  • Being moved to the end of their final scored lap, for not following the rules of the event;
  • A five-point penalty, to ensure that a driver who soloed a race cannot win a tiebreaker.

Teams whose second driver was unable to compete due to a genuine hardship, such as a medical emergency, may have penalties waived on a case-by-case basis after a review of their circumstances. Teams whose second driver joined the session incorrectly (such as creating a second team or joining as a spotter) will not have their penalties waived. Teams whose drivers shared a simulator or iRacing account in person will not be penalized.
