WATCH TOMY COMPETE AT THE HERITAGE INVITATIONAL!
2009 Trans Am champion and 2025 IROC Unser Family Cup winner Tomy Drissi will return to the Historic IROC grid this weekend in Charlotte, taking part in the Heritage Invitational at Ten Tenths Motor Club. Drissi will line up against IROC champions Mark Martin, Bobby Labonte, and Kurt Busch, NASCAR Hall of Famers Jeff Gordon and Bill Elliott, and a fleet of other racing superstars for an exciting showcase event on the 1.7-mile road course. He will also take part in Celebrity Pro-Am racing later in the day.
In last year’s Historic IROC race at the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca, Drissi took the Unser Family Cup win in a 26-car field that included all seven generations of IROC cars on track together for the first time. Driving a period-accurate 2006 Pontiac Firebird, Drissi held off three-time Indianapolis 500 winner Dario Franchitti and Busch to stand atop the podium in IROC’s first Laguna Seca appearance since 2002. He’ll be looking to defend his victory against a similarly stacked field of drivers and cars this weekend.
Few top active racers compete in historic racing as frequently or with as much success as Drissi. He was an established vintage racer before turning professional in Trans Am in 1999, and alongside his IROC commitments, his famous 1970 Chaparral Chevrolet Camaro can often be seen in Historic Trans Am events to this day.
“I couldn’t be more excited to take part in this weekend’s Heritage Invitational,” said Drissi. “Winning last year’s Historic IROC race at Laguna Seca was a huge honor, and I’m grateful to the IROC team for having me back to defend my victory against such a talented field. The Celebrity Pro-Am will also be a really fun way to drive some new vehicles and get some extra track time at the amazing Ten Tenths facility. I can’t wait to get behind the wheel!”
Tickets are available now at the Heritage Invitational site and start at $50. Gates open at 10:30AM, while IROC practice starts at 11AM and qualifying begins at 1:10PM. After an autograph session at 2PM and a fan track walk at 3PM, the IROC Exhibition will go green at 4:10PM. Race day will conclude with the Celebrity Pro-Am, which starts with a driver’s meeting at 5:45PM and will see four rounds of racing into the evening. For those who can’t attend, Racing America will carry free live streaming coverage of the event.
Following the Heritage Invitational, Tomy Drissi will return to Trans Am competition in his home state of California for a doubleheader at Sonoma Raceway on April 23-26. To keep up with Tomy Drissi, follow @tomydrissi on Instagram and Facebook, and visit www.tomydrissi.com.
