#RallyX: Massive Estering Field Sees Over 100 Entries for RallyX Season Finale

RallyX’s return to Estering for its 2025 season finale will see one of the most impressive rallycross entry lists anywhere in the world this year. More than 100 teams have entered the championship decider, which has been expanded to a doubleheader event.

The biggest jump in entries comes from a monster Open 2WD field, which increases to an event-high 28 racers with the return of many drivers who either competed earlier this season or at this track last year. An expanded 21-car entry in Open 4WD includes the return of Rene Muennich and Tommi Hallman to the pro lineup, while more than 40 combined racers across the two CrossCar categories and the usual 10 Supercar Lites complete the field.

Full entry lists for RallyX’s return to Estering are as follows:

#ChampOffRoad: Double Heartbreak for Gray Leadbetter Despite Podium Speed in Dirt City

Sometimes the results sheet doesn’t tell the full story of a race weekend. For Gray Leadbetter, that was certainly the case in Championship Off-Road’s return to Dirt City Motorplex.

The driver of the #28 On Track School/Yokohama/Pepper Palace/Ryan Beat Motorsports Chevrolet had more than enough pace to claim not only the first podium of her Pro Lite career, but also possibly a second and even her first victory. Unfortunately, the racing gods had other ideas, with mechanical issues taking her off the box on both Saturday and Sunday.

Though she remains locked in a heated battle for fourth in the standings, with three drivers separated by just five points, Dirt City was a story of what might have been for Leadbetter. Coming off her best run of the season at ERX Motor Park earlier in the month, momentum was building, and she put herself in podium contention after qualifying fifth. Saturday’s race saw her running firmly in third before issues dropped her to seventh across the line.

While that result was disappointing, Sunday’s was especially so. Leadbetter had been running in second place with a genuine chance to take her first win since returning to RBM for the 2025 season. Instead, more bad luck struck with under two minutes remaining in the race—just before the leader rolled and would have given her a shot to challenge.

“This past weekend had its highs and lows,” Leadbetter admitted. “It was a heartbreak being in the top three and having a chance to podium on Saturday and nearly a chance to win on Sunday when we had mechanical issues out of anyone’s control. But it showed we were able to run with the top guys and capitalize on their mistakes when needed. We’re there and have showed them we are.  Now it’s time to put it behind us and focus on Bark River.”

    PARTNER SPOTLIGHT:

Undeterred, Leadbetter and RBM were back to work the next day, heading up to Bark River International Raceway to test before returning to the track for race weekend on August 8-10. Tickets for that event are available now; click here to get yours and watch Gray race!

Gray Leadbetter’s Championship Off-Road program is supported by On Track School, Yokohama, Pepper Palace, Sparco, Vision Wheel, and Ryan Beat Motorsports. For more information on Gray, follow her on social media @grayleadbetter or visit GrayLeadbetter.com for her full schedule.

    #RallyX Denmark schedule unveiled

What has been a thrilling RallyX season so far continues this weekend with a return to Nysumbanen in Nørager, Denmark, for the first of back-to-back race weekends to conclude the 2025 campaign. The home event for front-runners like Open 4WD standout Ulrik Linnemann, Supercar Lites drivers Tobias and Kevin Daarbak and Mads Larsen, and multiple drivers in Open 2WD and both CrossCar divisions, Nysum has been a staple of the RallyX calendar since 2017.

The track features a nearly even split of tarmac and gravel, as well as one of the most interesting layouts in the sport. The start straightaway crosses through the infield of the track before dropping drivers off right before the split between the main lap and Joker Lap. In addition, the 1.180 kilometer (0.733 mile) circuit features a crossover bridge, unique among the courses on the RallyX schedule.

PMR Motorsports Teams Up With Chevrolet Performance for Chevrolet Sonic LT1 Rally Car

PMR Motorsports is pleased to team up with Chevrolet Performance for the remainder of the 2025 American Rally Association season. After years of running an LS3 motor in his Open 4WD Chevrolet Sonic, driver Pat Moro will make the switch to the next-generation small-block LT1, bringing V8 power back to the forefront of the sport.

“I couldn’t be more excited to team up with Chevrolet Performance to bring the LT1 to American rallying,” said Moro. “We’ve had one of the most popular cars in the sport for years thanks to the LS3, and upgrading to the LT1 with the support of Chevrolet Performance will only take us to the next level. We’re working hard to get the Sonic LT1 ready to debut later this year, and we can’t wait to show it off!”

Moro’s journey with Chevrolet dates back more than a decade, including multiple starts at X Games and in Red Bull Global Rallycross. He first swapped an LS3 motor into his Sonic for the 2019 season, and the car has proven to be one of rallying’s most exciting and unique builds ever since. Fans across America have flocked to the PMR tent to get a glimpse of the Sonic LS3 before the rallies begin, but one thing is for certain—they’ve always been able to hear it coming on stage.

Now, Moro and Chevrolet Performance will trade up to the LT1 powerplant. The 6.2-liter V8 LT1 has served as the engine of choice for countless Chevrolet builds over the years. Now, it’ll bring a completely new dimension of performance to an American rallying scene that has already proven its love for the LS swap.

The 2025 ARA National Championship continues on August 21-23 with the Ojibwe Forests Rally in Minnesota, followed by the Overmountain Rally in Tennessee on September 20-21 and Lake Superior Performance Rally in Michigan on October 17-18. Be sure to follow @chevroletperformance and @pmrmotorsports on Instagram for updates.

#RallyX Brings Over 75 Entries in Return to Nysum

RallyX makes its return to one of its most prominent venues next weekend with a visit to Nysumbanen in Nørager, Denmark. Once again, the series will bring a strong entry list to the circuit, with no fewer than 76 entries lodged across its five classes, including 14 in the premier Open 4WD division and 24 in CrossCar, once again the largest division.

Past Nysum winners on the Open 4WD entry list include Ulrik Linnemann (2018 and 2024), Oliver Eriksson (2019 and 2020), and Fraser McConnell (2021), while Lukas Andersson will look to repeat his Supercar Lites feat of double victories in 2023. Other drivers looking to defend victories from last year include Simon Tiger and Viktor Johannson in Open 2WD and Joonatan Ylilammi in CrossCar, while last year’s double CrossCar Junior winner Hampus Hagstrom will hope to have a similar showing in Supercar Lites this year.

DANNY AITKEN MAKES ROOKIE RUN ON PIKES PEAK IN ‘SHAKE AND BAKE’ STYLE

Colorado Springs, CO – Innovative. Versatile. Adaptable. These are three of the most valuable qualities that any driver can bring to The Broadmoor Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, presented by Gran Turismo. Few drivers can boast all three—especially as a Pikes Peak rookie—but few drivers are quite like Danny Aitken.

Born in New Zealand but now living in Pagosa Springs, Colorado, Aitken landed his first PPIHC invitation for 2025 to campaign BROTUS, an LS-swapped 2001 Reynard Champ Car. But just weeks before the race, he did one of the toughest things imaginable: he switched vehicles completely, strapping in behind the wheel of a 1400-horsepower Chevrolet SS once campaigned under #7 by PPIHC legend, Layne Schranz.

    PREPARATION AND DEDICATION

Aitken spent several years planning and training for his rookie campaign. He trained extensively behind the wheel of a Ligier F4 in New Mexico at Suika Circuit, owned by former IndyCar driver Jim Guthrie, while working on BROTUS. The Reynard would be outfitted with a 6.2-liter Chevrolet LT2 engine and twin turbochargers, instead of the 2.65-liter, single-turbo V8s from the car’s time in CART.

NEVER GROW UP / NEVER GIVE UP

When BROTUS appeared at the PRI Show in Indianapolis last winter, Aitken had the phrase “NEVER GROW UP” on its rear wing. However, “NEVER GIVE UP” would become a better descriptor for his rookie Pikes Peak campaign.

Unfortunately, it became clear in the weeks leading up to the race that BROTUS wouldn’t quite make it to the start line for 2025.

Fortunately, a high-quality replacement wasn’t far off; he secured the familiar Chevrolet SS, which multi-time PPIHC winner Layne Schranz last campaigned in 2022, to stay on the entry list.

“I like the history of the car. It comes from 50 years of history with the Schranz family. It’s honestly just a privilege to drive it because this is a very visceral, raw car – No traction control, 1400 horsepower, and it’s pure Pikes Peak.”

    MAKING THE SWITCH

Despite the late change of plans, Aitken made the most of a busy June. He wrapped the car with a Talladega Nights theme, borrowing Ricky Bobby’s “ME” livery; the wrap was designed to draw attention to the PTSD Foundation in honor of Houston Tumlin, who played Walker Bobby in the movie and lost his battle with PTSD in 2021 after serving in the military.

“I set out to do this for me, and the car says ‘ME’ on it, but it’s not about me. It’s about our team, it’s about representing the PTSD Foundation of America, and it’s about knowing that you can go out there and do something bigger than yourself.”

Aitken would also kick off the month with some shakedown runs at Suika Circuit before heading to the mountain for pre-race testing. In those runs, it became clear that his new ride was going to be quite the test for a newcomer to the mountain.

“There’s nothing like this car,” he admits. “This is not essentially a NASCAR, it’s a purpose built 1400 horsepower hillclimb car. There’s nothing like it, nothing can prepare you to drive it.

“As a driver, it is a challenge. And I welcome that because I try to pride myself on being a diverse, kind of all-round athlete. Put me on a motocross bike, put me in a NASCAR, put me in an IndyCar, I’ll adapt or die—those are our options.”

While that horsepower number might make some racers blink, it wasn’t the toughest part of the vehicle switch. After so much time spent learning to drive open-wheel cars, Aitken would need to adapt to a totally different seating position and experience in the stock car.

“I’m used to a very laid back seating position for open wheel stuff that I’ve been in,” Aitken explained. “(With this car, I was) going into a sitting up position, and then getting away from the paddle shift to a sequential. Also, the sequential was set up to upshift pushing forward and to downshift pulling back, which is opposite to what most people run, but that’s how Layne had the car set up.”

    THE ROOKIE EXPERIENCE

Race week saw Aitken become one of Pikes Peak’s most popular rookies, between his larger-than-life personality and the instantly recognizable paint scheme. But the Kiwi picked up speed as his first race week progressed, working his way up the Unlimited standings over the course of practice and qualifying.

On race day itself, Aitken shaved multiple seconds off his qualifying time from Tuesday as the course was shortened to end at Glen Cove due to weather. In spite of all the adversity, he earned a 10th place division finish—celebrating his success with a shoey after climbing out of the car.

“I’d like to give a big shout out to my sponsors and the entire team for doing such a great job,” Aitken said after the race. “Also a massive shout out to the Pikes Peak Hill Climb staff and Safety crew. See you next year with the twin turbo Indy car!”

Fun Facts about Preparing for the Race to the Clouds:

“I’d run with a mask on and try to just stop myself from getting oxygen, and that was already at 7000 feet where I live.”

“I’d drive my dually truck through the mountains in the ice sideways, and turn the traction control off.”

“I also went snowmobiling all winter, then did a couple of motocross races in the month before the race.”

Favorite section: “I like the switchbacks. I do that just for fun, because you’re just on the gas, and then you’re hairpinning, and then you’re on the gas, and it just feels like you’re making sick gains. And that’s what I’m used to, just from driving in the mountains. For 14 years I’ve lived in Colorado, and mountain driving is what I love to do, so the switchbacks are a blast.”

Favorite track: “I like Glen Helen for motocross, that’s a gnarly one. But honestly, my home track, Aztec Motocross, and then Suika Circuit down in Albuquerque—it’s got everything you need as a driver to keep things maintained.”

“But as a spectator? Le Mans, that’s a dream. An LMP car at Le Mans—one day we’ll make it happen.”

Best advice you received: “Build it up. Just like the car, you don’t jump on it and decide you’re going to be Dale Earnhardt. You’ve got to get used to the car. Don’t be afraid to go slower on sections, get to learn the flow, and stick to your own program.”

Must-have items on the mountain for race day? “We have the cougar in the car! So that, and my Crystal Gayle T-shirt.”

#ChampOffRoad: Gray Leadbetter Returns to Dirt City Motorplex Aiming for First Pro Lite Podium

Professional off-road racer Gray Leadbetter and the #28 On Track School/Yokohama/Pepper Palace/Ryan Beat Motorsports Chevrolet continue the busiest stretch of the Championship Off-Road season this weekend at Dirt City Motorplex. Leadbetter returns to Lena fifth in the Pro Lite standings, sitting within striking distance of fourth and establishing herself as the top true rookie in the class.

“We’ve made some great memories at Dirt City over the past few years, so I’m excited to get back to the track this weekend,” said Leadbetter. “We’re getting closer to our first podium in Pro Lite every time we hit the track, and our season-best finish at ERX last time out proves that. We’re hoping that this will be the weekend that we break through and get back on the box!”

As with many tracks on the Champ Off-Road schedule, Leadbetter has a history of success at Dirt City in her time with RBM. In 2022, her Pro SPEC championship-winning season with the team, she took one of her multiple victories on the season; in 2023, she added a second-place finish.

Last year, Champ Off-Road made two visits to Lena, with a season-opening round in May joining the traditional July date. In the May race, Leadbetter debuted her own Pro SXS team, becoming one of the youngest owner-drivers in the sport and opening the campaign with a top 10 finish. In the July event, Leadbetter scored her first top-five finish as an owner-driver with a fifth place on Sunday.
